History

Vineyards for generations

The Moser family’s winemaking tradition goes back over 17 generations. As early as 1124, a Moser was named as the manager of the wine cellar of the Melker Benedictines in Rohrendorf. Hardly anyone, however, has achieved greater prominence in the history of Austrian viticulture than Dr. HC Lenz Moser. In the 50s and 60s of the last century, he developed the high-level process of training the vines to the wire frames, thus revolutionizing viticulture, not only in Europe, but worldwide.

Founding of the Sepp Moser winery

In the mid-1980s, Lenz Moser’s son Sepp, decided to go his own way and adapted the Atrium House, his parents’ former villa in Rohrendorf, and in 1987 founded the “Weingut Sepp Moser”.

He reduced the vineyards in Rohrendorf in the Kremstal to the best locations and set his ambition to make characterful, fine wines from around 33 hectares of vineyards that were marketed in international upscale gastronomy and upscale specialist retailers which are still being sold to this day.

With management according to Demeter guidelines, we remain true to the unconditional pursuit of quality and – more than ever – individuality. The focus is on the vitality of the soils and the vitality of the vine cultures and the endeavor to preserve them for future generations
